Acupuncture: The insertion of single use needles into the body to produce a therapeutic effect. This modality can be used on most bodies. If you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, ask your doctor before receiving acupuncture.
Gua Sha: Also known as scraping, is the use of a smooth edged tool, such as a soup spoon, to scrape at the surface of the skin, to produce a therapeutic effect. This modality can be done for stiffness, pain, and tension of the muscles, as well as for stimulating the immune system. Moxibustion: The burning of the herb Mugwort over acupuncture points and channels to produce a therapeutic effect. This modality is generally used to warm the channels and energize the body and body systems. This modality can also be soothing for menstrual cramps of specific nature. Cupping: The placement of glass or plastic cups on the body, with suction, to produce a therapeutic effect. This modality is often used to relieve muscle tension and pain, stimulate the immune system, and move stagnation from the area of concern. Many athletes receive cupping as a way to help relieve the muscle soreness that comes from lactic acid build up from constant training. Tui Na: Asian Body Work/Massage. Differs from regular massage, as it is very area specific. This modality is used to help relieve pain, tension, and tightness of the body, and may also include assisted stretching and movement of body areas. |
